Getting to Kiel

By car:

By train:

Train connections and schedules can be found at the Website of the German Railway (Fahrplanauskunft der Deutschen Bahn). Usually you have to change trains in Hamburg although a few trains a day continue directly to Kiel. If you change at Hamburg do it at the Dammtor Station because that one has only one platform for north-bound trains.

By plane:

There are two airports close to Kiel: Hamburg, and Lübeck. While Hamburg is a major airport with air connections to most European and International cities, Lübeck is a regional airport served mainly by Ryanair. However Lübeck is interesting because Ryanair offers cheap flights from London Stansted.

From Hamburg airport to Kiel (Railway Station) there is a convenient shuttle bus. It's called "Kielius", runs every hour, takes about 90 min (do NOT get off at Neumünster!) and costs about € 30 back and forth. The Kielius stop is located at Sector B in the Shopping Plaza, between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2.

Airport Lübeck

From Lübeck airport you can take either the bus nr. 6 or the train to the Lübeck Main Central Railway Station, from where you can easily take the train to Kiel Central Railway Station.

The stop for bus route 6 is on Blankenseer Strasse not far away from the terminal (approx. 50 m) . The journey to the bus station/central train station in Lübeck city centre takes 25 minutes. The fare amounts to €2.60 per person (single - Price type number 3).
